Under the direct supervision of the head of the CMD (Unit Work) and the CTA (Project Activities), the Project Officer will provide the following technical and operational support to the CMD Secretariat and LAS member states through the envisaged task forces, including the following:

CMD/Unit Work
•    Serve as back up to the head of CMD as necessary and lead the assigned staff under the designated units.
•    Support the head of CMD as well as the relevant units and under the CMD for the organization of events, including preparation of briefing packages, background documents, presentations, and talking points when needed.
•    Monitor, analyze, and report on developments in the region and their direct/indirect impact on LAS roles and mandates.
•    Contribute to research and analyses and assist in preparing analytical briefs as requested by the head of CMD in support of project priorities and work plan.
•    Attend and support task force meetings as necessary, including the preparation of relevant materials

Project Activities
•    Assist the CTA in the preparation of ToRs for national and international consultants, in drafting inception report, project annual work plans, progress reports, etc.
•    Liaise with task force members and any other stakeholders and strengthen contacts to ensure open lines of communication as necessary.
•    Perform other coordinating tasks as appropriate for the successful implementation of the project in accordance with the project document and as requested by the head of CMD and/or CTA.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:  
Master or Bachelor Degree in Political Science or any other related field.

Experience:


•    Minimum 2 years of professional work experience with a graduate degree or 4 years with a bachelor degree in any of those areas the project is dealing with about early warning and crisis response, including capacity development, planning, programme evaluation and coordination.
•    Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, PPT, etc.).
•    Knowledge of the UN System Structure, including established programme and administrative and financial procedures is an asset.
•    Knowledge of national crisis response systems in the region will be an advantage.
•    Knowledge of LAS and its work systems will be an advantage.

Language Requirements:  
Fluency in English and Arabic (written and oral).
