We carry out both long-term development work and, more recently emergency humanitarian work.

SCI strategy for livelihoods interventions focuses on refugees’ access to employment and micro-entrepreneurial activities.  SCI engaged with the private sector in Greater Cairo to provide livelihoods support across two pathways – wage employment and micro enterprise.  SCI livelihoods activities drew on proven packages of intervention through a holistic approach addressing various refugees’ needs to accelerate outcomes for the brief period of implementation for livelihoods support.

ROLE PURPOSE:
Livelihoods Mentorship Coordinator will be responsible for the support of SCI’s livelihoods activities for refugees, asylum seekers and their host communities. The position includes the management of cases and the provision of mentorship to the livelihood beneficiaries. Furthermore, he/she will deliver trainings and ensure their understanding and ability to develop their skills. These skills will be used either to start a micro-business or to maintain a job. Finally, the Livelihoods Mentorship Coordinator is expected to understand all needs of the beneficiaries in order to refer them to internal/external service providers while following up with them to ensure sustainability of the livelihood intervention.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Project Implementation:
  • Participate in the development monthly field plans of the livelihoods activities of for youth refugees and host communities.
  • Open/updating case files for livelihoods program participants and collect information about their health, psychosocial, and educational needs in addition to identifying cases for referrals.
  • Match the applicants with the most appropriate job/business opportunities
  • Contribute to the delivery of the essential work skills and essential business skills trainings.
  • Mentor the livelihoods participants during the project implementation.
  • Support the apprenticeships for the wage employment track and entrepreneurs developing business plans, business models, financial projections and explore vocational training opportunities through the micro-enterprise track.
  • Follow up with the employed beneficiaries and provide career counselling.
  • Follow up with established micro-businesses and support program participants’ technical capacity and business skills.
  • Ensure that project activities are implemented in line with Save the Children’s policies and procedures, and adhering to donor requirements and guidelines.
Reporting and documentation
  • Prepare monthly field activities’ and achievements’ reports.
  • Maintain records of project beneficiaries’ interactions – case management updates.
  • Ensure information is captured accurately on our data collection devices.
Partnerships/Networks
  • Support engaging civil society partners in collaborations and networks to ensure the most vulnerable refugees’ issues are highlighted;
  • Advocate that all service providers, employers and organizations act in best interest of refugee youth and host communities. 
  • Support the livelihoods referral system.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Essential:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in livelihood projects (Microbusiness and/or wage employment track).
  • Clear understanding of refugee situation in Greater Cairo area.
  • Ability to network and follow-up with different service providers.
  • Experience in advocacy with service providers in order to ensure beneficiary receive possible service with best quality.
  • Strong background in start-ups and micro-business support and/or wage employment. 
  • Organizational and administrative skills.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills including negotiation skills and working under pressure.
  • Ability to accurately document information.
  • Commitment to SCI values and Child Safeguarding policy. 
  • Understanding livelihoods context in Egypt.
  • Ability to deliver trainings and critically think about the materials’ content and contextualization to the targeted beneficiary.
  • Fluency in Arabic (spoken and written) is required
  • Experience in mentorship and coaching for specific group of beneficiaries.
Desirable:
  • Academic or professional degree in development related fields is desirable.
  • Familiar with African refugee context in Egypt and associated political/cultural sensitivities.
  • Experience in supporting marginalized communities.
  • Fluency in English.
