Background
The UNDP Egypt Information, Communications and Reporting Unit (ICR) internship is for 3-6 months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Interns will gain first-hand experience with regard to the United Nations country programme activities in the area of strategic communications as well as public information and media relations. They will also gain a greater understanding of how the UNDP works and its range of activities in Arab Republic of Egypt.


Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is centered on assisting the Information, Communication and Reporting Unit (ICR) in discharging a range of data from programme and national systems, as well as multimedia tasks to raise the organizations visibility. The following responsibilities can be adapted, as appropriate, to fit each intern.
·        Develop a range of compelling infographics and visualizations from UNDP, public information and other government data using Open data tools, Tableau, and/or other relevant platforms.
·        Produce and support the production of communication products and materials (e.g. infographics, videos, etc.);
·        Incorporating feedback from data-owning agencies and UNDP team; at least some of the visualizations should be interactive.
·        Analyze quantitative and qualitative data collected through surveys to produce analysis
·        Communicate the findings from the survey and other research tools for maximum impact
·        Interpret and effectively visualize results into user-friendly graphics, representing the scale and scope
·        The infographics and visualizations should be broadly aimed at giving the public (civil society organizations, development partners, and journalists) greater insight into national data and key public figures.
·        Draft a small number of blog posts about the work for use in the communications stream of the project.


Competencies

Competencies:
·         Interest  in the research and or evaluation field, including experience analyzing quantitative and qualitative data from surveys;
·         Relevant degree in social sciences, international development, statistical sciences, or other relevant field;
·        Good visual spatial intelligence and experience with translating data into visual tools and trackers (i.e. dashboards, pie charts, graphs); with sound experience and understanding of effective data visualization;
·         Capacity to develop appropriate and culturally responsive images and/or infographics is an asset – Please provide a prior work sample (i.e. infographic);
·         Proven excellence using graphic design programs including MS Publisher, Adobe Illustrator and/or InDesign, etc.
·         Excellent working proficiency in English.

Required Skills and Experience
Applicants must be:
Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree (and if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience:
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages:
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of Arabice is an asset.

·        A deepened understanding of overall international development practice, particularly of the UN system, as well as approaches that the UN employs to translate its global values and the spirit of the UN Charter into practical work;
·        Obtained skills in coordinating processes that include a multitude of stakeholders;
·        Gained results-based management skills required for international development projects, including project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
·        Skills and experiences in policy analysis in the area related to sustainable development and 2030 agenda  ;
·        Acquired an in-depth understanding of (inter-)governmental processes
